American Senator Marco Rubio has criticised the Pakistan government, saying too much time has passed for the assassin of Shahbaz Bhatti to not have been brought to justice.

He blamed the country’s blasphemy laws, highlighting that they encourage extremism and violence to thrive.

Rubio said religious minorities in Pakistan are marginalized by the laws, proponents of which have been killed for speaking up against them.

While speaking in the House of the Senate, he drew are ruin to the killing of Shahbaz Bhatti.

Shahbaz was murdered in 2011 for calling for the blasphemy laws to be repealed and supporting persecuted Christians.

He was a serving Federal Minister of Minorities’ Affairs, and the first Christian leader to be a part of the Cabinet.

Rubio pointed out that five years after his death, no one has been held responsible.
