Asia Bibi’s complainant files review petition
The complainant in the Asia Bibi case has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court, asking it to reverse its decision to acquit the Christian woman and save her from the death penalty.
The petition further asks for her name to be placed on the Exit Control List (ECL), pending the outcome of any review.
It says there is concern Asia Bibi may leave the country before the review.
Qari Muhammad Salam is the petitioner.
The application questions whether the apex court was bound to take into consideration the nature of the case.
It asks whether the Supreme Court has to take into consideration that the member(s) of Shariat Court be included in this Bench, because this matter needs in-depth consideration.
It further questions whether the court has the jurisdiction to overrule facts such as the alleged confession by Bibi.
The petition states the court did not interpret the provisions of Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, read with Section 295-C of Pakistan Penal Code as well as Article 25 of the Constitution when making its judgement.
