Pakistani Christian man is still on death row five years after blasphemy allegations against him sparked the attack on Joseph Colony

A Muslim man had accused Sawan Masih, 30 of making blasphemous remarks against the prophet Muhammad on 9 March 2013, for which he was sentenced to death in 2014. His appeal is pending and he is still in prison.

After the accusation against Masih a 3000/strong mob attacked Joseph Coloney, burning hundreds of houses including Masih’s.

Last year more than 100 people accused of being involved in the attack were acquitted by an anti-terrorism court.

But father of three Masih is still being held in the Central Jail in Faisalabad, awaiting the outcome of his appeal at the Lahore High Court.

According to his wife, Sawan has developed breathing complications since his arrest and he does not talk anymore.
