A young Christian girl, Agnes Shaukat, daughter of Shaukat Masih of Lahore Cantt has been missing since November 20.

Her family suspect her employer is involved, as according to a rickshaw driver the family hired on a monthly basis to take he to and from the boutique, he dropped her as usual in the morning, but when he went to pick her up in the evening, she never came out.

Agnes’ father Shaukat and her brother Samuel took this matter to the police but instead of registering a case against the employer, Uzma , registered a case against unknown people, as she is very influential. CCTV footage shows Agnes entering the boutique, but the footage of her leaving is missing.

Although the police seem cooperative, no actual efforts are being made to find Agnes as now some influential people have got involved in the case.

Her parents are worried and suspect their daughter may have been kidnapped with the knowledge of her employer. But since she is very influential, the police is not questioning her.

They also suspect she may have been forcibly married to a Muslim man and converted to Islam, fearing they may never be able to see her again, something which often happens in similar cases.

Nasir Saeed, Director CLAAS-UK, said: “Within the last few months I have come across several such cases where Christian girls have been kidnapped and forcibly married to a Muslim man, and then converted to Islam.

“Unfortunately the police becomes biased and instead of following the law, sides with the Muslim perpetrators. In some cases even the courts have become biased and instead of giving custody to the parents, send the girls to to shelter homes or give custody to their kidnappers.

“Sadly the Government is aware of this situation and the Christian leadership has raised these issues with it. But the government and politicians all are hesitant to take any action to bring the perpetrators to justice, or bring such legislation to stop this ongoing misery of the Christian and Hindu girls in Pakistan.”
