• 21 bonded labourer’s including women and children set free in Pakistan

    CLAAS has succeeded in releasing 21 people, including women and children, from bonded labour.

    All the victims had been detained by brick kiln owner Arif Warrich and his companions at two brick kilns at District Gujar Khan.

    On June 16 a Bailiff was deputed by the Lahore High court to recover these victims and produce them in court the following day. The High Court passed an order setting all the detainees free.

    On June 11, 2019 CLAAS received a complaint from Atif Ali, a resident of Mandra District Gujjar Khan, stating his owner beat him severely as he was ill and unable to work at the brick kiln after Eid.

    The owner had detained them at the brick kiln for the last year for Rs. 35, 00000/.

    CLAAS filed an application on June 12 before the Lahore High Court Lahore asking permission for a habeas petition.

    The concerned court deputed court bailiff for the recovery of detainees.

    CLAAS’s representatives along with the court bailiff went to Gujjar Khan and recovered the detainees (10 children – including a newborn baby Neha who was only 17 days old, and 11 adults).
