Burewala, 22 June 2025 — An 14-year-old Christian woman, Elishba Adnan, was allegedly abducted, forcibly converted to Islam, and married against her will by a Muslim man, Babar Mukhtar, in a case that has deeply shaken the local Christian community.

According to Elishba’s mother, Rebecca Firdos, the incident occurred in the early hours of 11 June after a woman associated with the accused visited their home and gave sleeping pills to Elishba, instructing her to drug her family. The following morning, the family was found unconscious, and Elishba was missing along with Rs. 35,000 in cash. Witnesses later reported seeing her leave in a white Toyota Corolla.

Elishba’s father, Adnan Masih, a sanitation worker, immediately reported the matter to the City Police Station in Burewala. However, despite multiple visits and repeated requests, the police delayed registering a First Information Report (FIR), which allowed the accused time to allegedly arrange forged documents showing Elishba’s conversion and marriage as voluntary.

The family strongly denies these claims and believes Elishba was manipulated or coerced. They state that Babar Mukhtar had previously been involved in a similar incident involving another Christian girl, and accuse him of targeting vulnerable minority women.

Elishba, the eldest of six children, had recently left school to help her mother care for newborn twins. Her disappearance has left the family devastated and desperate for answers about her condition and safety.

The family is demanding that police register a case under laws related to abduction, child and forced marriage, and illegal religious conversion. They are also urging the government to take immediate steps to criminalize forced conversions and protect minority girls from such exploitation.
