Faisalabad, Pakistan – In a shocking incident of mob injustice, a 30-year-old Christian laborer, Wasif George, was brutally humiliated by local landlords in Chak 110 GB, Chak Jhumra district, Faisalabad, after being accused of cutting wood unknowingly. The victim was allegedly tortured, forcibly shaved, blackened in the face, and paraded through the village on the back of a donkey.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered at Chak Jhumra Police Station, the incident occurred on February 27, 2025, at approximately 6 PM. The FIR, filed by Wasif’s mother, Jameela Bibi, states that her son had gone to collect wood near a canal close to their village. Unintentionally, he broke some branches belonging to local landlords. This minor act led to an extreme and violent reaction from a group of influential men.

The accused, identified as Naeem, Junaid, Razzak, Jahanzaib, Tateer Ul Haq, and two unidentified individuals, allegedly abducted Wasif and took him to a poultry farm. Reports indicate that the victim was subjected to severe torture. Despite his pleas for forgiveness and willingness to compensate for the wood, the assailants refused to listen and mercilessly beat him with weapons and batons.

As the violence escalated, the perpetrators locked Wasif in a room and called a barber, who was ordered to shave his head and eyebrows as a form of humiliation. His face was then blackened, and he was forced onto a donkey and paraded through the village, an act intended to disgrace him publicly.

Family’s Plea for Justice

The ordeal came to light when Wasif’s mother, Jameela Bibi, and his brother, Patras, arrived at the scene at 10:45 PM. Despite calling the police helpline (15), the assailants fled before law enforcement arrived. The police subsequently registered a case on February 28, 2025, under sections 506B TP, 342, 337V, 248, and 149 TP of the Pakistan Penal Code.

While two suspects were initially arrested, they were released shortly after, raising concerns over police inaction and alleged pressure from influential figures in the area.

Victim’s Background and Christian Community’s Concerns

Wasif George belongs to a humble Christian family comprising his parents and three siblings. He earns his livelihood as a daily-wage laborer, struggling to support his family. His brother, Patras, is married but has no children.

The Christian community has condemned the incident, expressing outrage over the continued persecution of religious minorities in Pakistan. Church leaders and activists have called for justice and urged the government to take strict action against the perpetrators.

Call for Justice and Legal Action

The family, devastated by the humiliation and trauma inflicted on Wasif, is seeking justice. They have appealed to Christian organizations, human rights groups, and local authorities to intervene and ensure that the culprits are held accountable.

Despite Pakistan’s legal framework, incidents of mob justice and discrimination against religious minorities remain a pressing concern. Rights groups emphasize that swift legal action is necessary to prevent such barbaric acts from recurring.

As pressure mounts on the authorities, will justice be served, or will impunity prevail once again?
