A Pakistani man has been sentenced to death under the blasphemy law.

The sessions court in Lahore handed Saleem the death penalty and fined him Rs200,000.

The charges related to an incident in 2016, when police filed a first information report again him under Section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code after Saleem was accused of making blasphemous remarks in a public place.

Twelve witnesses had reportedly recorded testimonies against him – six in court and the other via video link due to security concerns.

Half of the trial was conducted in court, and the other half via video link from prison, also for security purposes. The verdict was delivered to Saleem in prison, video link.
