An International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief will be marked on August 22.

Adopting a resolution to mark the day, the UN General Assembly is inviting all countries, U.N. agencies, civil society, and individuals to observe the event.

The resolution expresses concern about continuing acts of intolerance and violence based on religion or belief against individuals,

It also states that terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations cannot and should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilisation or ethnic group.

The day will honour victims and survivors from all religions who and aims to raise awareness about the importance of respectful religious diversity and inclusion.
