Land dispute leads to false blasphemy accusation against Christian man
A Christian man in Faisalabad faces the death penalty after a local Muslim accused him of committing blasphemy.
According to International Christian Concern, Rehmat Masih was imprisoned at the District Jail Faisalabad on June 19 after being accused of blasphemy by Sajid Hameed Bajwa.
Rehmat’s son, Boota Masih believes that the blasphemy accusation is really down to a disagreement over land between his father and local Muslims.
ICC reports that the women and children in the family have already fled from the area over fears for their safety.
He told ICC that the family did not want to leave the area as they had been living there for a long time, and that they wanted “peace and justice” and for Rehmat to be freed from jail.
ICC’s Regional Manager for South Asia, Jonathan Racho, said on the organisation’s website: “Once again, Muslims are using the blasphemy law in order to settle a personal vendetta. We are extremely concerned for the safety of Rehmat and his family as well as other Christians in the area.”
