Update on Shazia's case 11/02/2010
On 10 February 2010, Naeem’s family including his wife Ghazala, sister in law Ruby Farooq and his son Hariss appeared in the court of Mr. Shafique-ul-Rehman Additional Sessions Judge Lahore for the confirmation of their bails as they are on pre-arrest. CLAAS’s legal team includes Mr. Tahir Gull, Mr. Tahir Bashir, Mr. Nasir Anjum Advocate, Mr. Tanvir Masih Gill Advocate including CLAAS Staff Mr. Asher Sarfraz, Sohail Habel and Katherine Sapna Program Officer CLAAS were present in the court to contest the bail but the judge didn’t conduct the hearing and summoned all parties in the court on 13 February. Shazia’s mother, Nasreen Bibi, also accompanied CLAAS’s team.
A large number of lawyers were present in the court and they threatened CLAAS lawyers and staff members and warned them to be ready for any consequences if they do not withdraw their attorney. The situation was tense in the court room, because of pressure and open threats to CLAAS’s lawyers. The defending lawyer’s case was called by the judge at 9:00 am and CLAAS’s lawyers submitted their Power of Attorney.
