A blasphemy suspect is in critical condition after falling off the fourth floor of the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) headquarters in Punjab.

According to reports, the police handed over Patras Masih, 18, and his cousin Sajid Masih, 24, to the FIA’s cybercrime wing on Friday.

Earlier this week, an FIR was registered against Patras at Shahdara Town Police Station under Section 295-C of the blasphemy law.

The complainant, Hafiz Muhammad Awais, alleges that Patras had posted a blasphemous photo on Facebook.

According to an anonymous FIA official, during interrogation Sajid tried to escape and “jumped off” the fourth floor of the building.

However he landed on the roof of the second floor, and suffered serious injuries to his head and body.

After the incident he was taken to Ganga Ram Hospital by and later moved to Lahore General Hospital for treatment to serious head injuries.

At least 10 FIA officials, including Additional Director Imran Ahmar, were present outside the operation theatre, were present at the hospital.

While no official from the cybercrime unit was in attendance, two assistant directors from the immigration and human trafficking wings, were.

One is reported to have said it would be best to keep the matter quiet in order to avoid religious tension, given that it was a blasphemy matter.
